How do I become CFI Certified in Carpet?

The Certification process can be broken down into 6 steps.

Step 1: Check the Calendar. Find a Certification in your area or one that you are willing to travel to.

Step 2: Apply – Download the application and proof. All applicants must have the minimum years of installation experience required before testing. (Entry levels – 2 years, Advanced levels – 4 years) All forms must be submitted 2 weeks prior to testing.

Step 3: Study – After forms are received, you will be sent study materials.

Step 4: Test – Arrive Friday at 5:30 for check-in. A review will be done from 6-7:30 covering the testing and CFI standards. From 7:30-9:30, the CFI Certification Written Test will be administered which includes OSHA, EPA, and Residential/Commercial Guidelines. Arrive Saturday morning at 7:30 for oral and hands-on testing till 2:30.

Step 5: Receive – 4 to 6 weeks after the Certification, you will receive a Badge and Certificate verifying your CFI Certification. CONGRATULATIONS!

Step 6: Your initial Certification is good for one year. An annual renewal fee of $100, along with proof that you attended two educational events is required to continue your Certification.

How do I become CFI Certified in Hard Surface?
Presently, you must complete the Armstrong Certified Installer Program, or the The National Wood Flooring Association to become a CFI member. If you should lose your endorsement from the Manufacturer, the CFI also removes your name. As Manufacturers become involved in the program, their names will be made available. More Hard Surface Info

When will there be a CFI Certification in my area?
First, check the Events Calendar for a Certification in your area. If there is not one scheduled near by, you are welcome to host a certification in your area. Call the CFI National Office at 816.213.4646 or email cfiguy@earthlink.net

How long before I receive my CFI Certification in the mail?
If all paperwork is completed and received at the National Office, you should expect to receive your Certificate and Badge within three weeks.

How long before I receive my renewal in the mail?
Please allow three weeks for processing.

What kind of pricing should I expect in my area?
The CFI does not specify pricing for Installers.

How do I charge for my work?

What is a CFI Installation Inspector?
Members who attend the CFI Inspector Installation have advanced knowledge of the requirements of professional installation. The Inspector Course does not teach other facets of inspection that are vital to the success of professional Inspector. It is the most extensive installation course available for the Inspector. Understanding, that many problems are related to installation, it appears important that the Inspector be thoroughly prepared to understand and explain installation problems or problems that may appear to be installation-related, but are not.
